Two Blue Angels Named Softball All-Independent by AD3I

The Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) announced its 2014 Softball All-Independent Teams recently, and two players from The College of New Rochelle, senior Tanika Charles (Brooklyn, NY/Clara Barton HS) and junior Jah-Leah Ellis (Harlem, NY/Hun School of Princeton) were recognized with All-Independent status.

Charles moves up from Second Team All-Independent in 2013, earning First Team All-Independent Outfield honors.  She was the offensive leader for the Blue Angels, pacing the team in average, hits, runs, total bases and stolen bases.  The senior was among the top base-stealers in the conference, swiping nine bases (in 10 attempts) over the course of the season.  Charles ended the season on a seven game hitting streak.  When not manning the center field position for the Blue Angels, Charles also led CNR in the circle, leading the team in appearances, starts, complete games, and innings pitched.

Ellis earns Second Team All-Independent Outfield accolades after posting an impressive offensive season, despite missing the first half of the season due to a concussion.  The junior outfielder/pitcher posted a .409 batting average and led the team in doubles, home runs and RBI while posting a slugging percentage of .818 and an on base percentage of .536.  She also stole seven bases in nine attempts.  Ellis also spent time in the circle, posting three complete games.
