VIDEO: New Rochelle High School's Ultimate Frisbee Team Wins Season's First Tournament

Ultimate Frisbee is gaining widespread recognition as a fast-spaced sport for a "different kind of athlete."

New Rochelle High School’s Ultimate Frisbee team returned home victorious in their first tournament play of the season, at an event hosted by John Jay High School at Onatru Farm Park in South Salem.

Under the direction of coach, Peter Konigsberg, the award winning Albert Leonard Middle School math teacher and former Ultimate Frisbee player at the University of Albany, the team took first place in the Five-team tournament, beating the host team, Xavier, Scarsdale and Mamaroneck.

Although most people associate Ultimate Frisbee with college students and the tech industry of Silicon Valley - Google cofounder Sergey Brin has been spotted playing pick-up games – the game is gaining widespread recognition as a fast-spaced sport for a “different kind of athlete.” Speed and endurance is the name of the game in this non-contact sport in which points are scored in an endzone similar to football. Many teams, including New Rochelle’s, are co-ed.
