Westchester County Sells Yonkers Property for $32 Million
The purchaser wants to build a big-box retail store on the site.
The sale of a Yonkers property could help offset Westchester County’s budget shortfall.
County Executive Robert P. Astorino recently announced that property on Austin Avenue in Yonkers will be sold to Morris Builders LP for $32 million.
The county will receive $19 million, with the City of Yonkers receiving the remaining amount.

Morris, according to information from the county, wants to building a 175,000-square-foot department store. The property is located in the vicinity of Stew Leonard's, Costco and Home Depot.
An estimated 560 permanent full-time jobs would be created in addition to construction jobs.

The county faces a potential $17 million budget deficit after the first quarter of 2016, due to mainly to a shortfall in sales taxes revenue.
