Winner Likely Chosen For 16th Congressional District

The district represents northern Bronx and parts of southern Westchester.

Incumbent Rep. Eliot Engel seems poised to cruise to victory Tuesday in the Democratic primary for the 16th Congressional District. With 504 of 732 districts reporting at 11 p.m. Tuesday, Engel has received more than 73 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results. With 83 percent of Westchester County votes tallied, Engel has received 72 percent of the votes, according to unofficial results.

District wide, Jonathan Lewis received 16.9 percent of the vote.

Derickson K. Lawrence received 3.87 percent of the vote.

Joyce N. Briscoe received 5.75 percent of the vote.

Engel was first elected to Congress in 1988.

The 16th Congressional District includes the northern Bronx and Yonkers, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, Larchmont, Scarsdale, Eastchester, Bronxville, Tuckahoe, Pelham, Pelham Manor, Rye, Rye City, and parts of Ardsley, Hastings-on-Hudson, and Edgemont.
