12-Year-Old Rescues Semi-Conscious Swimmer On LI: Police
He was on an inflatable boat and helped the woman to the boat ramp, police say.

SOUTHOLD, NY — A 12-year-old boy helped a woman who became ill while swimming in Southold earlier this month, police said.
According to Southold Police, the incident occurred on September 3 at 12:55 p.m. on South Harbor Road when a woman, 71, became ill and semi-conscious due to her level of exhaustion and swallowing saltwater.
The boy, who was vacationing at his grandparents' house in Southold, found the woman and called 911, police said.

The boy was on an inflatable boat and helped to transport the woman, a Southold Town police officer, and a Southold Fire Department EMT from the inlet to the Indian Neck boat ramp, where a Southold Fire Department ambulance was waiting, police said.
"The Southold Police Department would like to thank the youth for his assistance and demeanor, especially at such a young age," police said.
