2 Charged With DWI Over Labor Day Weekend In Greenport: PD

One man was found sleeping in his vehicle with the motor running, police say.

GREENPORT, NY— Two men were arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Greenport over Labor Day weekend, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the first incident took place on Sunday at 8:28 p.m. on Central Ave. Edgardo Avila Pineda, 41, of Hyattsville, MD, was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI: no priors; DWI, first offense; and driving with a suspended registration, police said.

Police said they received a report of a silver Honda Pilot being driven erratically in the area of Main St and Central Ave in Greenport. STPD personnel located the vehicle in question and identified Avila Pineda as the operator; Avila Pineda was determined to be intoxicated and placed under arrest, police said.

Avila Pineda was transported to Southold Town police headquarters where he was processed and held overnight to await arraignment before Southold Town Justice Court, police said.

The next incident took place on Monday at 1:18 a.m. on Route 48 in Greenport, police said. Carlos Chamale Chamale, 42, of Greenport, was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .08 of 1 percent, first offense; DWI, first offense; and having alcohol and cannabis in a motor vehicle on a highway, police said.

Chamale Chamale was found stopped on the side of the road, sleeping in the vehicle with the vehicle running while still in drive, police said. Chamale had an open beer bottle in between his legs while he was sitting in the driver seat and was found to be intoxicated, police said.

Chamale Chamale was arrested and transported to Southold police headquarters where he was processed and held for morning arraignment, police said.
