SOUTHOLD, NY — A pair of pups is back at the shelter after their owner lost his housing on the North Fork.

Gabrielle Stroup, director of operations at The League, said Tia and Tamara are 3-year-old bully mixes, about 45 lbs. each.

"They came to our shelter from a high-kill shelter August, 2021," Stroup said. "They were adopted together in October, 2021."

But circumstances changed, and now the dogs are in need of forever homes.

"Sadly, their owner lost his housing, and they had to come back to the shelter in November, 2022," Stroup said. "These poor girls are sitting here at the shelter. They need to be adopted together. They are very bonded — and a great pair."

Their owner, she said, could not find another pet-friendly rental.

Both dogs are shy at first but warm up quickly, Stroup said. They do well in playgroups at the shelter, are crate-trained and good in the house, she added.

"It was very sad when they had to come back to the shelter since they had such a great home," Stroup said.

If you'd like to adopt Tia and Tamara, who are at the Peconic shelter on Peconic Lane, call 631-765-1811.
