2 Drivers Arrested After Illegal Street Racing On North Fork: Police

NORTH FORK, NY — Two drivers were arrested and charged after street racing their vehicles on the North Fork Sunday, police said.

The incident took place at 2:40 p.m., Southold Town police said. A Southold police highway patrol officer saw a group of six vehicles driving west, side by side on Rt. 48 in Peconic, police said.

When the officer pulled onto Rt. 48 to monitor the group, the six vehicles in the group slowed to about 20 miles per hour, and the front two vehicles, a 2019 Ford Mustang driven by Tyler Domiano, 24, of Wading River and a 2019 Honda Civic driven by Michael Negron, 22, of Patchogue, engaged in an "illegal speed contest", reaching speeds of more than 75 miles per hour, police said.

When the Southold officer tried to stop Negron and Domiano, both drivers turned onto Cox Lane in Cutchogue and headed north, still traveling at a high rate of speed onto Oregon Road, where they were both stopped by the officer, police said.

Both were arrested and charged with illegal speed contest, first offense; third-degree fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle; license plate violations; failure to stop at a stop sigh; and imprudent speed, police said.

Both drivers were transported to police headquarters, processed and released on appearance tickets; both vehicles were impounded to the Southold Police department yard, police said.
