2 Injured, 1 Seriously, After Driver Falls Asleep At Wheel

The driver hit a tree, police say.

SOUTHOLD, NY — Two passengers were injured after a driver fell asleep at the wheel and hit a tree in Southold early Monday, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the crash occurred at 4:17 a.m. on Route 25 when Kevin Fuentes, who was driving a 1999 Honda Civic, fell asleep. Passenger Jose Lopez suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

A second passenger, Jose Escober, was treated at the scene and released; Fuentes was also treated at the scene and released.
