2 Injured In Southold Crash Monday: Police

Route 48 was closed for hours after the crash, which left 2 people hurt; one driver had to be extricated from his vehicle, police say.

SOUTHOLD, NY — Two people were injured in a crash on County Route 48 in Southold Monday morning, police said.

According to Southold Town Police Chief Steve Grattan, both drivers were injured in the two-car crash. One driver, a 77-year-old man, was in a Porsche; the second vehicle, a Bronco, was driven by a female, 39, police said.

Neither vehicle had passengers, police said.

The woman was heading east on Route 48, and the man was traveling north on Tuckers Lane, Grattan said.

The male driver pulled out from Tuckers Lane, failing to yield to the eastbound Bronco, resulting in the collision, Grattan said.

The man was extricated from his vehicle; both drivers were transported to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries; the extent of those injuries was not immediately known, police said.

Route 48 remained closed while the crash was processed and investigated, but was open as of Monday afternoon, police said.
