MATTITUCK, NY — Two Mattituck students made the district proud during a recent career-based competition.

Mattituck Junior-Senior High School senior Scott Edgett and junior Abigail McGlone recently competed in the carpentry assistant and animal careers paths, respectively, at the recent SkillsUSA Regional Competition.
Scott placed first in his category and Abigail placed third in her category.

Competing against the top talent from across Long Island, Scott and Abigail "faced rigorous, high-pressure challenges designed to test the limits of their technical expertise and professional trade skills," the district said.
The competitions are evaluated by industry professionals, meaning that the students were measured against real-world industry standards.
"Winning at the regional level proves that they are both classroom ready and career ready," the district said.
