2-Month Traffic Shift On Route 25 In Southold Begins Soon: DOT
The two-month closures are part of $2.6 million crack sealing project covering over 50 miles of the East End's state roads.
SOUTHOLD, NY — Motorists are being told to expect a weekday daytime traffic shift on New York State Rt. 25 in Southold beginning next week.
Beginning Monday, April 8, travel lanes will be shifted between Skunk Lane and Albertson Lane on Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the New York State Department of Transportation said.
"This traffic shift is necessary to ensure a safe work zone while highway crews are performing preventative maintenance," the NYSDOT said. "Travel lanes will remain open in both directions. Work in this area is expected to be finished in approximately two months."

These closures are part of $2.6 million crack sealing project covering over 50 miles of the East End’s state roads to extend the pavement’s life; full completion is scheduled for the fall, the NYSDOT said.
As with most road projects, work may be canceled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.

Motorists are reminded to drive carefully through the work zone, follow the instructions of the flag persons, and obey any speed restrictions that may be in place for their safety and the safety of the highway work crew.
Recently, the New York State Department of Transportation and the New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo's traffic safety committee unveiled a public service announcement and social media campaign focused on the importance of respecting flagging personnel. The current work zone safety campaign, “Flaggers have families, too,” is designed to remind motorists that flagging personnel are not attempting to disrupt traffic — simply doing their jobs and want to get home safely at the end of each work day, the NYSDOT said.
