GREENPORT, NY —Two students in the Greenport Union Free School District have tested positive for COVID-19, Superintendent Marlon Small wrote in an email to parents Monday.

As a result of the positive test, the students will be required to quarantine as stipulated by the Suffolk County Department of Health guidelines, he said.

Both cases have been reported to the Suffolk County Department of Health; the district has also completed the contract tracing process and have also reported that information to the SCDOH, Small said.

Anyone who has been deemed to be in close contact with the students will be required to quarantine. The Suffolk County Department of Health will notify those who are identified as being in close contact and issue quarantine orders, Small said.

"As you may be aware, we are experiencing an increase in the rate of positive COVID cases across Long Island," Small said. "Our decisions will make a significant difference in helping to slow or stop the spread of this virus. I urge everyone in our school community to act responsibly in following the established safety protocols. This is especially critical at this time of the year as we gather with friends and family."
