2 Windsurfers Rescued On New Year's Day: Cops

They were struggling in the current, unable to get back to shore, police say.

NEW SUFFOLK, NY — Two windsurfers were rescued from the current off New Suffolk on New Year's Day, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place at 2:56 p.m. off Jackson St. when the men, from Franklin Lakes, NJ, were seen on windsurfing boards, struggling in the current, and unable to get back to shore.

Police dispatched a marine unit and the Cutchogue Fire Dept. to assist the two men back to land; both were checked by EMTs and released, authorities said.
