2016 Long Island Pumpkin Picking Guide

Here's a rundown of some of the best places to head for pumpkin picking and family fun this month.

Pumpkin picking is a beloved family tradition, a fun way for family and friends to spend time together sharing the best of what Long Island living has to offer.

Patch has compiled a list of some places where Long Islanders can take part in the well-loved fall activity.

Many of the pumpkin picking locations offer a little bit of everything for fall fun, such as fall festivals and hayrides, and other farms provide their customers with genuine you-pick fields where they can get fresh pumpkins.

Where to go pumpkin picking on Long Island:

Harbes Family Farm

  • 5698 Sound Ave. in Riverhead, 1223 Main Road in Jamesport, 715 Sound Ave. in Mattituck.
  • Harbes Farm offers three locations, Harbes Family Farm in Mattituck, Harbes Western Farm in Jamesport, and Harbes Farm and Orchard in Riverhead.

Pumpkin picking takes place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through the end of October at its various locations.

Mattituck South's U-Pick Pumpkin Patch is open all week, with eight acres of on the vine U-pick pumpkins. It's located across the street from the Mattituck Farmstand.

The Mattituck Barnyard Pumpkin Patch is only open Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 30, with seven acres of on the vine U-pick pumpkins. It's located behind the Barnyard Adventure if entering through the Mattituck Farmstand, with another separate entrance off Sound Avenue.

The Jamesport Pumpkin Patch features nine acres of on the vine U-pick pumpkins. The Harbes Orchard Pumpkin Patch at the Riverhead location is only open on weekends and offers four acres of U-Pick pumpkins.

Harbes offers a great array of corn mazes, including a Wizard of Oz maze in Mattituck; open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday in October.

There's also a Mattituck Barnyard Snoopy Corn Maze, new this year. The Snoopy Maze is open from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ever weekend in October..

At the Harbes Orchard, a Robin Hood Corn Maze is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every weekend in October.

The Jamesport location's Giant Pumpkin Corn Maze is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekends.

Krupski Farms

  • 38030 Rte. 25 Peconic
  • U-Pick pumpkins, vegetables, haunted barn, haunted hay rides, haunted corn maze.

Helen's Pumpkin Farm

  • 987 Union Ave., Aquebogue
  • Pumpkin picking, farm animals, hay rides on weekends, corn maze, bounce house, market, concession stand.

Wickham's Fruit Farm

28700 Main Road, Cutchogue

Apple orchards, U pick from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Wickham's Fruit Farm is an historic, bicentennial farm on Peconic Bay, and a family enterprise for generations. The retail market is open from May through December from Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Schools and educational groups can schedule a tour on weekdays, Monday through Friday, to visit the farm and pick fruit in season, enjoy the scenic beauty of a farm on the water, observe a live working beehive, and when possible, observe an old historic cider press. No scheduled tours on Saturday, but often there are wagon rides on Saturdays to take people to and from the orchards.

Stakey’s Pumpkin Farm

  • 270 West Lane in Aquebogue
  • Stakey’s is open for pumpkin picking Mon. - Fri. from noon to 5 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Columbus Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The farm also features hay rides, pony rides, a bounce house, corn maze, face painting, a country store and flower house.

Lewin Farms

  • 812 Sound Avenue, Wading River
  • Lewins offers pick-your-own pumpkins, a corn maze, roasted corn and much more.

Greenland Family Farms

  • 17155 County Road 48, Cutchogue
  • The farm offers hayrides on the weekends and pumpkin picking.

Schmitt’s Family Farm

  • 26 Pinelawn Road, Melville
  • Schmitt’s Family farm is open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for pumpkin picking through Oct. 31. Hayrides, farm animals, pony rides and corn maze are also available on weekends.

Fink’s Country Farm

  • 6242 Middle Country Road in Wading River
  • Fink’s offering pumpkin picking open to the public from Monday-Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. It is available on weekends but only to those attending the Fall Festival from 9:30 am. to 5:30 p.m. until Nov. 1.
  • The fall festival runs through October 30, weekends only from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., featuring an animal farm, barnyard bouncer, pig races, playground, corn crib, combine slide, calf roping, character appearances, live music, corn cannon, face painting, fall photos, pumpkin slingshot, roasted corn, a kiddie train, and more.

Brightwaters Farms

  • 1624 Manatuck Boulevard in Bay Shore
  • Brightwaters Farms holds its Fall Harvest through Sunday, October 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.. The farm is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. No charge for admission on weekdays. Admission on weekends and Columbus Day is $10 a person. Children under 1 are free.
  • Admission includes unlimited hayrides, farm playground, live entertainment, face painting, cartoon characters, animal viewing, magician show, rubber ducky races, strong man challenge, pumpkin pitch bean bag toss, and a farm pit stop challenge.

Hank’s PumpkinTown

  • 240 Montauk Highway in Water Mill
  • Hank’s is open for pumpkin picking every day from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. through October 30.
  • Attractions include The Maze Park, a seven-acre corn maze with interactive games, narrated hay rides, tractor and family corn hay rides, duck races, a combine slide, a pedal cart track race, 50' slide, Maze Mountain, calf milking, pig races, and more.

Benner’s Farm

  • 56 Gnarled Hollow Road in Setauket
  • Benner’s is open for pumpkin picking weekends in October. Entertainment and rides are also available as well as a Harvest Festival Oct. 9 from noon to 4 p.m.
  • The farm also features a Haunted Hayride.

Elwood Pumpkin Farm

  • 1500 E. Jericho Turnpike in Huntington
  • Elwood Pumpkin Farm is open for pumpkin picking through end of October. They are open Monday-Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and Saturdays, Sundays and Columbus Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Featured are pumpkin picking off the vine, hayride and a child corn maze.

Fairview Farm At Mecox

  • 69 Horsemill Lane in Bridgehampton
  • Fairview Farm is open for pumpkin picking through October from Thursday - Sunday. from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with Monday holiday hours, too.
  • The farm features the The Maize, an eight-acre maze.

Gabrielsen’s Country Farm

  • Gabrielsen's has a new loaction at 200 Herrick's Lane in Jamesport
  • Gabrielsen’s Country Farm features a Fall Festival, with admission including unlimited hay rides on weekends and holidays, unlimited choo-choo train rides on weekends and holidays, character visits, bouncy houses, a corn crib, kiddie maze, farm animals, a giant pumpkin, games area, restoration school house, old-fashioned church, pedal tractors, live music, a picnic area and more.
  • Gabrielsen's is open 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. seven days a week, with pumpkin picking every day through early November.

Glover Farms

  • Glover Farms is open for pumpkin picking beginning October 1 through the end of October from 2 to 6 p.m. on weekdays; Saturdays, Sundays and Columbus Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

White Post Farms

  • 250 Old Country Road in Melville
  • Celebrating its 25th Annual Fall Festival, White Post Farms is open to the public for pumpkin picking from Sep. 29 - Oct. 25 on Saturdays and Sundays and on Columbus Day. Admission gates are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., but guests can stay until 6 p.m. Admission includes entertainment and games. The farm also features shows, pony rides, hayrides, and The White Post Animal Farm.
