"As a congressman and military officer, Lee Zeldin swore to support and defend the U.S. Constitution," organizers of the Zeldin protest said. "The evidence from the impeachment inquiry is clear and uncontradicted: President Trump abused the power of his office and obstructed Congress. But Zeldin has ignored these facts. It is now time for Zeldin to fulfill his constitutional duty to put country above politics and protect our democracy."
The Patchogue rally is co-sponsored by 16 Long Island grassroots organizations and is one of nearly 500 events to be held in 50 states and Washington, D.C.; co-sponsors include All Together Long Island (ATLI); East End Action Network; East End Women for Change; Get2Work Long Island; Indivisible North Fork; LVLZ; Long Island Activists; Nassau Now; North Country Peace Group; Organize, Plan, Act; Pantsuit Nation Long Island; PEER/NYPAN; Resist and Replace; ShowUpLongIsland; South Country Unites and Suffolk Progressives.

Last month, Donald Trump Jr. attended a fundraiser for Zeldin, who is running for re-election for his seat in New York's 1st Congressional District in 2020. It's not the first time the President's son has headlined an event for Zeldin, who has long been a strong Trump supporter: According to Newsday, Trump Jr. headlined an event for Zeldin in 2018 hosted by insurance executive Steve Louro in Nissequogue.
Zeldin did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
