9/11 Ceremony Pays Heartfelt Tribute To Lost Souls: Photos
A moving ceremony honored all those lost on 9/11, as well as those who have died from 9/11-related illnesses since. See photos here.
PECONIC, NY — In a somber and emotional ceremony, Southold Town residents came together Wednesday to remember souls lost on 9/11.
The town's 9/11 committee, together with the Southold Town Fire Chiefs Council, hosted the moving remembrance ceremony at Jean Cochran Park on Wednesday to honor the fallen.
"Never Forget!" has long been the mantra of the event; prior to the ceremony, participants were invited to place 2,977 flags, each representing a life lost on 9/11.

The event began with a presentation, open to the public, on the history of 9/11. Later, a special ceremony by Division 8 of the Southold Town Fire Department will unfold; a wreath was placed and firefighters from all of the fire departments in Southold Town paid their respects to those who died not only on 9/11 but also, in the years since, from 9/11-related illnesses.
