GREENPORT, NY — A peace pole will soon be installed at the Greenport school campus.

A dedication ceremony will take place on April 29 at 1:30 p.m., according to Carolyn Elak and Rebecca Lillis, Greenport Interact Club advisors .

The Peace Pole will be located between the school’s tennis courts and garden, "serving as a lasting symbol of unity, hope, and global peace," they said.

The ceremony will begin with a welcome from school staff, followed by Amy, the club president, speaking about the significance of the Peace Pole and its role in promoting peace and understanding within the school community and beyond.

A highlight of the event will be the participation of elementary students, who have created hand-decorated peace rocks, the Interact Club said.

"Each student will place their rock around the base of the pole, symbolizing their personal commitment to kindness and peace," they added. "This meaningful event not only celebrates student creativity and community spirit but also marks a milestone for the region. Greenport is the first school on the North Fork to install a Peace Pole, making this a significant and inspiring addition to the community."

The school welcomes families, staff, and community members to attend and be part of the occasion.
