SHELTER ISLAND, NY — A man was arrested after a reported burglary at a Shelter Island residence, police said.
According to Shelter Island police, Bruce M. Hopke, 73, of Shelter Island, was arrested on May 21 and charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, and fifth-degree possession of stolen property.
Subsequent to an investigation into the reported burglary at the Shelter Island home, Hopke was taken into custody and charged, police said.
He was found to be in possession of multiple items of property confirmed to have been stolen from the residence, police said.
Hopke was held overnight and arraigned the following day before the Shelter Island Justice Court, where he was remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility, police said.
The matter is expected to be presented to a Suffolk County grand jury for further action, police said.
No additional information was immediately given in regard to what was stolen.
