SHELTER ISLAND, NY — A New Jersey man was arrested and charged with boating while intoxicated on Shelter Island on July 4, police said.
According to Shelter Island police, the incident took place at 6:33 p.m. Coleman S. Gould, 27, of Rumson, NJ, was seen operating a personal watercraft at a high rate of speed on West Neck Creek, police said.
After further investigation, he was arrested and charged with operating a vessel while intoxicated, first offense; reckless operation of a vessel; operating a motor vessel without a safety certificate; and speed greater than 5 miles per hour in a creek, police said.
He was transported to the Shelter Island Police Department for processing and later released on a desk appearance ticket and asked to appear in court on a later date, police said.
