LONG ISLAND, NY — As Long Islanders wake up Thursday to smoke-filled horizons, due to the Canadian wildfires, see what Mother Nature has in store for the upcoming weekend's weather.
According to the National Weather Service, an air quality alert is still in effect Thursday for all of Long Island.
Here's what's in store for Friday and the weekend, according to the NWS:
Thursday
Patchy smoke. Partly sunny, with a high near 87 degrees. Light west wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning.
Thursday night
Widespread smoke, mainly after 1 a.m. Mostly clear, with a low around 67. Northwest wind 3 to 8 mph.
Friday
Sunny, with a high near 84. North wind 5 to 7 mph, becoming west in the afternoon.
Friday night
Partly cloudy, with a low around 69. South wind 3 to 5 mph.
Saturday
Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 5 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 81. South wind 6 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Saturday night
Showers likely before 8 p.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., then showers likely after 2 a.m. Low around 72. Chance of precipitation is 90 percen. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
