Flash Flooding Forecast Across LI Due To Monday's Heavy Rain: NWS

LONG ISLAND, NY — Monday's heavy rain has brought the chance of flash flooding across Long Island.

There is a chance of localized to scattered instances of flash flooding into early Monday evening, as well as later Monday night, across Suffolk and Nassau Counties, the National Weather Service said.

A flood advisory was in effect until 10:45 a.m., with flooding casued by excessive rainfall across Long Island, the NWS said.

The flooding was expected in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

Between 1 and 3 inches of rain had fallen by 8:53 a.m., the NWS said.

Additional rainfall amounts of up to 1 inch are expected in the area throughout the day, resulting in minor flooding.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Huntington Station, Glen Cove, Huntington, Northport, Oyster Bay, Bayville, Centerport, Cold Spring Harbor, East Northport, Greenlawn, Elwood, Fort Salonga, Glen Head, Lloyd Harbor, Muttontown, Locust Valley, East Norwich, Oyster Bay Cove, Old Brookville and Upper Brookville, the NWS said.

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 82. Southwest wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 p.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 66. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming north after midnight.

Tuesday

Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Light and variable wind becoming north around 6 mph in the morning.

Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Calm wind.

Wednesday

A 30 percent chance of showers before 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 83. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
