SHELTER ISLAND, NY — A new Netflix production, "Women Like Us," is slated to film on Shelter Island soon.
According to a description of the August 17 meeting of the Shelter Island town board work session on Citizenportal, the multi-week shoot will take place between Sept. 21 and Oct. 1.
Brian Ferguson, the location manager, said the project would use the Pridwin Hotel for most days and film on Crescent Beach on Sept. 25 and 26, the description said.
Also discussed were parking, camper/studio vehicles, police water safety and a possible deposit of $10,000 to $15,000 to cover town staffing costs, the description said.
According to a preview of the project on Tudum by Netflix: "Pack your bags: Whoopi Goldberg, Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams, and Vivica A. Fox are heading to the Hamptons in the new original Netflix comedy 'Women Like Us', where lifelong friendship comes with plenty to unpack. "So, what brings this all-star group together for a weekend away?" the post read. "The upcoming comedy, directed by Tasha Smith ('Mayor Of Kingstown', ''Tis So Sweet'), follows a recently widowed woman who is dragged to the Hamptons by her lifelong best friends and sister on what should have been her 30th wedding anniversary. The weekend becomes a reckoning with grief, marriage, and the sisterhood that's carried them throughout the years — as well as the realization that dreams don't have an expiration date. In other words, there's plenty of emotional baggage coming along for the trip."
According to Netflix, Ali Kinney wrote the screenplay, with writing from Tracy Oliver. James Lopez and Poppy Hanks will produce for MACRO Film Studios, alongside Anikah McLaren and Mark R. Wright for Higher Ground, the description said. Michelle Obama will executive produce for Higher Ground, with Charles D. King executive producing for MACRO Film Studios, Netflix added.
Waldron Casting also posted on Facebook Friday that a casting call would be coming soon for extras in the Shelter Island area.
