Armed Robbery at Magic Fountain Sparks Search: Police

BREAKING: The thief displayed what appeared to be a handgun, Southold Town Police Chief Martin Flatley said.

MATTITUCK, NY — Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place at Magic Fountain in Mattituck Friday, according to Southold Town Police Chief Martin Flatley.

The robbery occurred at 12:22 p.m. at the Main Road ice cream shop Friday when "a light-skinned male displayed what appeared to be a handgun and left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash," Flatley said.

The man was wearing a green jacket, black baseball cap with red trim, gray sweatpants and black sneakers, police said.

He entered the store and demanded that the employee give him the money in the cash register, police said. The employee then stated that the subject lifted his jacket and displayed what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband, police said.

The suspect then fled from the store with the cash on foot, police said.

Multiple patrol units and a Southold Police Department K-9 unit searched the area with negative results, police said.

Southold detectives are continuing the investigation.

No none was injured, Flatley said.
