MATTITUCK, NY — A longtime business will soon be a memory on the North Fork.

Owner Greg Williams announced Thursday that Country Time Cycle in Mattituck is "closing its doors" after selling bicycles since 1981.

"This transition is bittersweet, as I’ve been here for the past 32 years," Williams said.

He began working at the shop in 1991 and purchased the business in 1997.

"It has been an amazing experience to help so many generations of families on their journey into bicycling," Williams said. "From kids' tricycles, to first bicycles, through adult bikes, we had a lot of fun and met so many nice folks."

Saying good-bye isn't easy, said Williams, who told Patch that he will be staying in the area and pursuing another opportunity. "Another opportunity presented itself to me and I am going in that direction," he said.

Williams, a former Southold Town trustee, has long been a familiar face on the North Fork canvas and his business is a part of generations of memories.

"I want to thank the community and our many customers for your support over the last 26 years. We will be starting our liquidation sale on Friday, August 18, and will continue to repair bikes until we cease operations this fall," Williams said.

He signed his message to the public, "with gratitude."

Country Time Cycle is located at 6955 Main Road in Mattituck.
