Lunaria, Money Plant, Dollar Plant, Silver Dollar Plant ... By Whatever Name, This Wildflower is a Gem

In the warm, moist sunshine after days of rain, this wildflower is growing like a weed.

The sun just came out!!!!! The garden smells like a lush, moist hothouse. Petals and leaves are glistening with raindrops.  It felt like Eden walking the beds with camera in hand. And hiding everywhere in plain sight was  the so-called “money plant” or “silver dollar” (aka Honesty).  I discovered its spectacular seed heads are already beginning to form and the plant itself isn't even done flowering yet.

Technically considered a wildflower, this plant goes by the  imposing official name of Lunaria anua. For every horticultural purist telling us to root ‘em out, there are two folks online who share wonderful stories of grandparents back-in-the-day drying the bloomed out seed heads. When the tissue-thin film is removed, the lovely capiz-like ovals make great indoor floral arrangements.  Just happen to have just such a bouquet gracing the Thai Spirit House in my living room. Now, who could weed out something that uniquely lovely!?
