Capsized Kayak Recovered, No Person Found: Police

BREAKING: Initially, rescuers thought a person might have possibly been in the water, but no one was found, police said.

SOUTHOLD, NY — Rescuers rushed to the scene of a reported capsized kayak and possible person in the water Sunday — but no one was found, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the call came in Sunday at 1:30 p.m. about a capsized 12 foot yellow kayak, in the Long Island Sound, adrift two thirds of a mile north of Plum Gut, with "a possible person in the water" spotted by someone on the Cross Sound Ferry.

Southold Bay Constables assisted the United States Coast Guard with the search and rescue; the kayak was recovered and no person was found, police said.
