Carpenter Steals $50K In Jewelry From Mattituck Home: Police
The man, who was employed as a carpenter in the home, sold the jewelry at area pawn shops, police say.

MATTITUCK, NY — A carpenter stole more than $50,000 worth of jewelry from a Mattituck home where he was employed and sold it at area pawn shops, police said. According to Southold Town Police, Harold D. Varnot, 56, of Clayton, NC, was arrested Nov. 18 at 12 p.m. and charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony.
Southold Police arrested Varnot after an investigation revealed that he sold the stolen jewelry at pawn shops in Shirley and Patchogue, police said.
After being transferred to the custody of Suffolk County Police, Varnot was processed and charged.
