GREENPORT, NY — Christmas is over and it's time to start taking the ornaments off the tree. Rather than worry about how to discard of live trees, the Village of Greenport has come up with a way to put them to good use.

Greenport Village has partnered with Orient State Park to participate in a Christmas tree reuse program.

Village crews began picking up discarded trees Wednesday will continue to do so through the month of January. Those trees will be used at Orient State Park for erosion control, village officials said.
