Crackdown On Fisherman Catching Undersized Fish Nets Violations
The fishermen on the North Fork were caught with undersized sea bass, blackfish and porgies, police say.

EAST MARION, NY — A crackdown on fishermen netted a sea of violations for those catching undersized sea bass, porgies and blackfish, police said.
According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place on both Saturday and Sunday when bay constables were out enforcing the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's laws on the North Fork from the Orient Point cable crossing to Mattituck Breakwater, to coincide with the opening of blackfish season on the Long Island Sound.
Patrols resulted in the confiscation of large amounts of the undersized fish, as well as groups of fishermen having quantities in excess of fish bag limits; multiple summonses were issued to violators, police said.
