Dedicated Girl Scouts Work Diligently To Earn Silver Award
Congratulations to Girl Scouts from Troop 94 in Southold!
NORTH FORK, NY — A group of dedicated Girl Scouts worked together to beautify and support Charnew's Farm in Southold with an eye toward earning their Silver Award.
According to Nicole Alloway, leader of Troop 94, a multi-level group of Girl Scouts who attend school in Southold, her freshmen Scouts, who are leaving the Cadette level of scouting, have been working hard for six months to earn their Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest national recognition possible at the Cadette scouting level.
The Silver Award requires a project of a sustainable nature, a minimum of 50 hours per girl service, along with other requirements and prerequisites, she said.

On Sunday, the girls presented their yesterday at the Peconic Land Trust's agricultural center at Charnews Farm, located on Youngs Avenue.
"Their projects are threefold: They planted an ecologically sound pollinator garden on the property and prepared a layout map with education information about the plants contained in the garden; built and installed three kinds of habitats for pollinators around the farm — bats, birds and butterflies — along with 'art in nature' installations in the garden; and they planned and painted a 30' mural inside the main barn which contains several 'blow ups' of educational information, including plant life cycle, and fungi life cycle," she said.

Scouts involved included Ellie Alloway, Annie Antonucci, Sydney Carter, Macy Carter, Evelyn Helinksi, Belle Penny and Amelia Woods.
The project, Alloway said, benefits those who use the community garden patches at Charnews, adds to the health of the community, and will educate future generation of children on the North Fork.
