Dedication For New Greenport Welcome Sign Saturday
Restoring the sign was a labor of love and a testament to Greenport pride and memories.

GREENPORT, NY — In a heartwarming show of Porter pride, a restored "Welcome" sign will be unveiled Saturday at 2 p.m. during a dedication ceremony in Greenport. The project is spearheaded by Maria Heaney.
According to Joan Dinizio, the colorful sign — which sported a shamrock — was originally created by Heaney's brother, Tim, and some classmates as a Greenport High School project in art teacher Bruce Metrowitz's class.
Greenport Village commissioned the sign and paid for materials, according to reports. A new version was born when someone tried to refurbish the sign, she said.
