Deliveryman Hit By SUV On North Fork: Police

The Amazon deliveryman, 22, was hit by a driver who said the road was dark and he didn't see him, police say.

CUTCHOGUE, NY — A deliveryman was hit on a road in Cutchogue Sunday night, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place at 5:35 p.m.on Route 25 when the Amazon delivery person, 22, was injured as he was crossing State Route 25 to deliver a package to a residence.

The deliveryman was struck by a Volvo SUV as the driver was traveling westbound on Route 25, police said. The Southold Town Police Department, along with the Cutchogue Fire Department, responded and investigated, police said.

Dark road conditions are believed to have played a factor in the crash; the driver of the Volvo SUV said he had not seen the man crossing the roadway, police said. The man was treated by Cutchogue Fire Department EMTs and was later airlifted by the Suffolk County Police Department to Stony Brook University Hospital for further medical evaluation, police said.
