Despite Call For 'Help,' No Boaters In Distress Found: Police
The United States Coast Guard raced to the scene but no boaters in distress could be found, police say.

NEW SUFFOLK, NY — Despite a call for help from the waters around Robin's Island, no boaters in distress were found, police say.
According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. north of Robin's Island in New Suffolk.
The United States Coast Guard requested a Cutchogue Fire Department assist with a search of the area between the northern tip of Robin's Island and New Suffolk, police said.

The USCG reported receiving a transmission of "help" on VHF channel 16, and the call was plotted to the target area by the Coast Guard — however, no further contact with the caller was able to be made, police said.
The Cutchogue Fire Department and Southold Town bay constables assisted the Coast Guard with a search of the east end of Great Peconic Bay, Cutchogue Harbor, Little Peconic Bay and Hog Neck Bay and were unable to locate anyone, police said.

In addition, all boaters in the area at the time of the call were interviewed and none reported seeing anyone in distress, police said.
Upon clearance from the Coast Guard, all deployed units returned to their respective stations without incident, police said.
