Dog 'Dumped At' Shelter Lived In 'Torturous' Conditions

She was covered in wounds; flea, tick bites. "She has never slept peacefully in a bed. She has never had and family to love or love her."

PECONIC, NY — A sweet dog dumped at a shelter after four years of "torturous living conditions" is desperate for her forever home.

According to Gabrielle Stroup of the North Fork Animal Welfare League in Peconic, Sashatini is a sweet, enthusiastic, strong Shar Pei mix.

"She never knew love until she was four years old," Stroup said.

In January, she was surrendered with six other dogs from a "bad backyard breeding situation" to the NFAWL in Southold Town, Stroup explained.

"The dogs lived outside in kennels with very little human interaction. Sashatini was covered in bite wounds, fleas and ticks. She was sweet, but highly energetic and did not know how to act around people. Even with the horrible life she lived, she was never aggressive," Stroup said.

It was her strength, size and lack of social skills that kept her at the shelter while the rest of the dogs were adopted, she added.

"Eight months later she still sits in her kennel waiting for her forever home," Stroup said. "She has come a long way from her early days at the shelter and is now ready to make some family very lucky."

Thanks to NFAWL staff and volunteers Sashatini now has basic obedience skills and is highly adoptable, Stroup added. "She walks well on a leash, sits for treats and is great at adoption events but still has no home. She has never slept peacefully in a bed. She has never had and family to love or love her."

Super sweet and playful, Sasha, who just wants to be with people, needs a place to call her own, Stroup said.

"Unfortunately, Sasha is getting very anxious at the shelter, and even with all her training, walks and attention, she needs more. She is beginning to fail. It is imperative to find her forever home so she can continue with all the progress she has made. A home and a family is the next step.
If someone will give her a chance, they will have the most loyal dog for life."
