The League in Southold has 20 of the 43 small dogs; all were matted, dirty and injured when they arrived but are now ready for new lives.

NORTH FORK, NY —A passel of pups saved from a hoarding situation are all cleaned up and ready for their next chapters and new homes.
According to Gabrielle Stroup, director of operations at The League, Southold Town's animal shelter, which has locations in Peconic and Aquebogue, they became aware of a hoarding situation in an undisclosed location in Nassau County.
"We were alerted to 43 small dogs that needed rescue," she said. "We took in 20 and other rescues took some, as well."

The dogs came in matted and dirty, some with open wounds, Stroup said. The League was assisted by Katie’s Kuts groomer, as well as a volunteer, Mary; all have been shaving and grooming them, she said.
The dogs are all Maltese Yorkie mixes, ages 1 to 5 years old. "They will be ready to be seen — and we will take applications starting Wednesday," Stroup said.
