The original production is part of Northeast Stage's annual winter East End Shakespeare Actor Training Program, headed by A.D. Newcomer, where a small group of actors comes together for eight weeks to study classical acting, learn approaches to playing Shakespeare, engage in a deep exploration of his texts, and share the texts with the audience in an original piece of theatre using Shakespeare's characters, stories, and language.
The idea for this year's production, "Shakespeare: Tales and Tempests" was first conceived by A.D. Newcomer. The production was then created together by the whole troupe, picking material from six plays, gathering staging ideas, and writing narrative to help tie together the scenes, speeches, songs, and soliloquys of Shakespeare's that were ultimately chosen to be put on stage.
