Driver, 82, Rear Ends Car, Triggers Crash Into School Bus: Cops

One woman experienced neck pain after the crash, police say.

CUTCHOGUE, NY — No children were onboard a school bus involved in a Cutchogue crash Monday, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place at 2:50 p.m. at the intersection of Route 25 and Cox Lane in Cutchogue when two vehicles, driven by Evelyn Lucas, 82, of Southold and Donna Lyburd, 50, of Southold, were stopped at the red light at the intersection.

Lucas was unable to stop in time and struck Lyburd's vehicle in the rear, police said.
Lyburd's vehicle was pushed forward by the impact, striking the school bus, police said.

Lucas suffered from neck pain and was transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital via Cutchogue Fire Department; Lyburd was transported by Southold Police to Eastern Long Island Hospital for an evaluation, police said.

No other injuries were reported and no charges were filed, police said.
