Driver Crashes Into Utility Pole, Winery Sign: Cops

The crash took place Monday night, police say.

PECONIC, NY — A Peconic man crashed into a PSEG utility pole in Cutchogue Monday night, police said..

The incident took place at 10:22 p.m. when Ryan Mazzei, 26, who was driving a Ford 2005 SUV eastbound on Route 25 in Cutchogue at a "high rate of speed," lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway, Southold Town Police said.

Mazzei's car struck the pole and a Bedell Cellars sign, police said. Cutchogue Fire Department rescue responded and transported Mazzei to Eastern Long Island Hospital for evaluation, police said.
