Driver Fails To Obey Officer At Crash Scene; 3 Arrested: Cops

A driver fails to obey officer at the unrelated crash; two of the passengers in the car were also found with marijuana, police said.

GREENPORT, NY — A Manorville woman and her two passengers were arrested when she failed to obey a police officer at the scene of an unrelated car crash in Greenport, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place on Monday at 5:53 p.m. on Rt. 48 in Greenport. Brianna Mahoney, 22, was driving a white BMW and failed to obey a police officer who was directing traffic at the corner of Albertson Lane and Route 48 at the scene of the crash, police said.

Mahoney was stopped and found to have a suspended license, police said. Mahoney was arrested, charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, 2-3/more suspensions; failure to obey a police officer; and driving without a license, police said. She was transported to headquarters for processing and released on cash bail, police said.

Two passengers in the vehicle were found to be in possession of marijuana; both were charged with second degree unlawful possession of marijuana and issued field appearance tickets for a later court date, police said.

The crash took place when one driver was operating a 2018 Audi sedan and was stopped in traffic, making a left turn into the Soundview Inn; another driver was operating a 1998 GMC pickup, heading east on County Rt. 48 and failed to see the vehicle stopped in traffic, police said. The second driver's vehicle struck the rear end of the first vehicle; the driver in the first vehicle was transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries; the driver of the second vehicle was not injured, police said.
