Driver Hits 2 Poles, Bench, Building In Rollover Crash: Cops

He was treated for minor injuries after the crash, police say.

SOUTHOLD, NY — A Southold man crashed after he fell asleep at the wheel, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the crash took place on Sunday at 2:38 a.m. at the intersection of New York State Route 25 and Youngs Ave. in Southold. Patrick J. Smith, 25, was driving east on Rt. 25 when he fell asleep and his vehicle ran off the road, colliding with a town light pole, a telephone pole, and a town bench before overturning and striking the Century 21 building, police said.

Smith was transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital by Southold Fire Department rescue for treatment of minor injuries, police said.
