Driver Loses Control On Black Ice, Hits Utility Cable, Tree: Cops

He hit a PSEG guy-wire, a flatbed utility trailer and a tree, police say.

MATTITUCK, NY — A Peconic man lost control of his vehicle on black ice and crashed early Friday, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place at 6:45 a.m. on Sound Avenue in Mattituck when Kareen Hubbard, 23, of Peconic, was driving a 2015 Toyota Tacoma pickup west on Sound Ave near Aldrich Ln.

He drove over a patch of black ice and lost control of the vehicle, striking a PSEG utility pole guy-wire and then continuing off-road to drive through a section of privet hedges, striking a parked flatbed utility trailer and finally coming to a stop when he struck a large tree, police said.

Mattituck Fire Department rescue responded and transported Hubbard to Peconic Bay Medical Center for complaints of chest pain, police said.
