Drunk Driver Cuts Off Motorcycle, Crashes, Ditches Minivan in Road, Flees: Police

BREAKING: The Greenport man was apprehended trying to enter the backyard of a Bridge Street home, police said.

GREENPORT, NY — A drunk driver cut off a motorcycle, ditched his minivan, and attempted to flee authorities in Greenport early Friday morning, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, Jose Giron Alvizures, 27, was arrested at 12:08 a.m. and charged with two counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving without a license.

Police said the incident took place outside the Patriot Gas Station, located at 1100 Main Street in Greenport, when Alvizures, who was driving a 2003 Mazda minivan, attempted to make a lefthand turn out of the gas station and failed to yield the right-of-way to a passing motorcycle.

Alvizures cut off the motorcycle and the two vehicles collided, but no injuries were reported, police said.

Alvizures left the scene, abandoning his vehicle in the middle of the roadway a short distance from the accident location, police said.

He was seen attempting to enter the backyard of a residence on Bridge Street, police said.

Alvizures was stopped, found to be intoxicated and arrested, police said; he was transported to Southold Town police headquarters, where he was processed and held overnight for arraignment, police said.
