Drunken Driver Hits Dog, Leaves Scene: Cops
The dog is expected to recover, the vet says.
GREENPORT, NY — A drunk driver hit a dog and left the scene, police said.
According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place on Thursday at 4:04 p.m. on Third St. in Greenport. Christopher Moran, 65, of Greenport was involved in a crash, where he hit a dog and then left the scene, police said.
Moran was located by Southold Police and was found to to be intoxicated after failing several sobriety tests, police said. He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, and first degree operating a motor vehicle with .08 of 1 percent alcohol, police said. Moran was held at police headquarters to await morning arraignment, police said.

The dog was taken to the North Fork Animal Hospital and is recovering, a representative of the vet's office said.
