Drunken Woman Hits 2 Cars, Telephone Pole, Flees Scene: Cops

She was speeding and fleeing the scene of one crash when she collided with a second car — and a telephone pole, police say.

LAUREL, NY — A Riverhead woman drove drunk and hit two cars and a telephone pole Friday before being apprehended, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, Laurie Ann Cullen, 57, was arrested at 7:40 a.m. and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, leaving the scene of an incident without reporting, and speeding.

Cullen, who was speeding in a black 2016 Ford Escape westbound on New York State Route 25, collided into the rear of another vehicle that was also heading west on NYS State Route 25 near Laurel Lake Vineyards, police said.

Cullen fled the scene and continued speeding west into Riverhead Town; while heading west through Jamesport, she lost control of the vehicle and collided with a telephone pole and a parked vehicle, police said.

Cullen was found to be intoxicated, arrested, and transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of her injuries, police said.

Due to the extent of her injuries, she was released on her own recognizance and ordered to appear before Southold Town Justice Court at a later date, police said.
