DWI Charge, Physical Altercation After Card Game: Cops

A card game went wrong on the North Fork, police say.

MATTITUCK, NY — A DWI charge and a physical altercation followed a card game in Mattituck, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, Marvin B. Velasquez Mejia, 35, was arrested on Feb. 25 at 11:57 p.m. on Elijahs Lane and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

Police said they received a report of an alleged physical altercation near an Elijahs Lane address. After arriving at the location, an officer observed a vehicle heading north on Elijahs Lane and turning into the driveway of a home on the street, police said.

Velasquez Mejia, the driver, was was found to be intoxicated, police said. He and another Cutchogue man, 31, both intoxicated, engaged in a physical altercation that stemmed from an argument following a game of cards at the Elijahs Lane home, police said.

Velasquez Mejia was arrested and transported to Southold Police headquarters for processing, police said.
