Before serving as Chariman of the Board for three years in a row, he first served as Treasurer on the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Finance Committee.
In that capacity, Brashich represented ELIH on the Peconic Health Corporation (PHC) Board, a former parent corporation of ELIH and two other East End hospitals.
He has been involved in many community organizations on the North Fork with leadership roles including Chairman of the Southold Transportation Commission, Chairman of the North Fork Promotion Council, Co-chair of The Arts in Southold Town and Director of the East End Transportation Council.
He was recognized by the Suffolk County Legislature in 1999 as “Volunteer of the Year” and was awarded the prestigious Theodore Roosevelt Award, established by the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council, for his extraordinary contributions to his community hospital in 2000.
In addition, Brashich served as Governor, Secretary/Treasurer and Vice-President on the HANYS/Healthcare Trustees of New York State Board as well as the Committee on Governance (COG) while still serving on the COG Leadership Development Committee for the American Hospital Association.
As a Government Affairs Representative, he is a strong advocate for Eastern Long Island Hospital and has also worked to coordinate efficiencies with other community and state hospitals in the area while reducing the duplication of services on the East End of Long Island based on the recommendations of the Berger Commission.
“Neb Brashich has been a driving force in the community and a great ally for Eastern Long Island Hospital for the past 25 years,” Paul J. Connor III, President/CEO said. “His healthcare advocacy efforts have helped to keep key health services at ELIH viable for the residents of the North Fork and Shelter Island. It is only fitting that for the Hospital’s 110th Anniversary in 2015 that Neb be recognized as a distinguished Trustee.”
Brashich received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics/History from Trinity College in Hartford, CT and his Master of Arts in International Relations from The Johns Hopkins University in Washington, DC.
He served for twenty-five years in the United States Foreign Service before retiring to the North Fork in 1988.
He currently lives in Cutchogue with his wife, Prunella, a volunteer for the hospital’s Auxiliary. Together, they have two grown sons and seven grandchildren.
