Elderly Woman Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash: Police
The woman, 87, was crossing the street in Greenport when she was struck; the driver fled the scene, police say.
GREENPORT, NY —An 87-year old Greenport woman died in a hit-and-run crash Monday morning, police said.
According to Southold police, the crash took place at 7:20 a.m. on Front Street in Greenport. Elaine Schwartz was crossing at the intersection of Front and Third Streets when she was struck by a vehicle that was making a right turn onto Front Street from Third Street, police said.
After striking Schwartz, the driver fled the scene, heading westbound on Front Street, police said.

Schwartz was transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, police said.
The Southold Town Police Department is investigating the crash.
