Long Island’s surrounding waters is not only a great haven for abundant ecological marine life, but is also home to literally hundreds of shipwreck and associated artifacts where only a very small percentage have been discovered and identified. Bob Auteri, co-founder and Chairman of the Board of the Long Island Divers Association, will take you on a diving tour of a few of these local sites with historical information, pictures and several artifacts discovered from each wreck or site. The following shipwrecks and areas that will be presented include the USS Ohio sunk in 1884 in Greenport Bay; the HMS Colloden sunk in 1781 near Fort Pond Bay; the steamship Gate City, sunk in 1900 off Cupsogue Beach, Westhampton; and the America’s first submarine base, circa 1900 in New Suffolk. Donations appreciated and refreshments will be served after the power point presentation.
