Come at 7 p.m. for dessert and a pre-meeting stroll around the gardens at the Red House to see how our Garden Committee volunteers are creating a "Pollination Destination" for bees, birds and butterflies.
Indoors, at 7:30, we’ll hear from Polly Weigand, the founder and coordinator of the Long Island Native Plant Initiative (LINPI), which focuses on encouraging the use of genetically native plants. These plants, (ecotypes) are genetically distinct geographic varieties which have adapted to the specific environmental conditions of Long Island. LINPI is comprised of dedicated volunteers who are working to support local biodiversity by collecting, banking and propagating ecotypic seeds to provide truly native plant material for use by Long Island nurseries, landscapers, governmental agencies, non-profit organizations and the general public.

In addition to leading LINPI, Polly is a Soil District Technician of the Suffolk County Soil and Water Conservation District, a member of the Long Island Invasive Species Management Area (LIISMA) Scientific Review Committee, and is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science in Ecology from Hofstra University.
A limited selection of native plants will be available for sale, to benefit LINPI.
